Oh, Pennsylvania

Jotted this down on one of those long drives. Just needs a melody and chords.

Well i’ve known you all my life

I’ve seen your anger and your smiles

Your tears that keep flowing down like rivers

And your mountains that keep going on for miles

***

I’ve been from one end to the other

I’ve seen your worst and seen your best

Sometimes I feel like you’re my mother

But now you’ve put me to the test

Oh, Pennsylvania, why do you have to be so long?

***

Well I tried so many times to escape

Always traveling here and there

But I always found myself

Coming back to breathe your air

***

Susquehanna, so long and so wide

Schuylkill, in the city did I roam

Brandywine, my heart always

Allegheny, my new home

***

Steel mills, cornfields and coal mines

Soft pretzels, hoagies, Yuengling beer

Amish buggies, shoo fly pies

Phillies and Pirates all are here

***

Endless Mountains spent my youth

Tioga with her canyon wide

Rolling hills of Chester County

Then you led me up to the Heights

Oh, Pennsylvania, why do you have to be so long?

***
